Tobacco Road - Fowler Ave
Historic bar in Tampa with roots back to 1915, live music venue, and cultural landmark.
About
Tobacco Road on Fowler Avenue carries a long Tampa history. The building itself dates to the early 1900s, when it operated as a bakery before Prohibition turned it into a speakeasy with a hidden liquor room behind a second-floor bookshelf. It took its current name in the 1940s and became known for hosting live blues and jazz, drawing national acts like George Clinton, Koko Taylor, John Lee Hooker, Dr. John, and Albert Collins. The bar offers live music throughout the week and hosts seasonal events including a Crawfish Boil and Seafood Festival. Current owners Michael Latterner and Patrick Gleber have run the venue since 1982.
