Mckay Bay Nature Park
National avian sanctuary in Tampa with boardwalks, trails, and an observation tower for bird viewing.
About
McKay Bay Nature Park sits on the east side of Tampa at 134 N. 34th Street, protecting 38 acres of mangrove habitat and mudflats along the bay. The park draws people who want to watch wading birds, especially during winter months when populations peak. You can walk a half-mile nature trail through the preserve, take a 0.17-mile boardwalk that winds through mangroves toward the mudflats, or ride the 1.25-mile paved multi-use path that circles the peninsula. An observation tower and education pavilion on the east side and a bird viewing station on the west side give you good vantage points. The park has parking, picnic tables, bicycle racks, and interpretative signage to help you understand what you're seeing.
