Lake Francis Nature Preserve
1,673-acre nature preserve in Odessa with trails, wetlands, and water features for hiking, birding, and horseback riding.
About
Lake Francis Nature Preserve sits on 11009 Tarpon Springs Road in Odessa, spanning 1,673 acres of mesic pine flatwoods, wet prairie, and cypress swamps. The preserve centers on two main water features: Brooker Creek and Lake Frances itself. It connects directly to Lake Dan Preserve, creating a combined protected area of over 2,800 acres across the region. The preserve welcomes hikers and bird watchers year-round, with a 6.4-mile equestrian trail for those bringing their own horses; trailer parking is available on-site. Dogs are welcome on the trails. The preserve does close seasonally during peak summer rainy months when flooding makes the grounds inaccessible.
