Forward is a fifth-generation family business founded in 1925, now operating across Michigan with over 1,000 employees. The company runs 26 Shell and 3 Marathon convenience stores, manages nearly 60 Subway locations as Michigan's largest franchisee, and supplies propane, diesel, and fuel oil to homes, farms, and businesses across 24 counties. Forward also owns T.R. McTaggart, a screen print and embroidery operation; Kristin & Company Candles, which produces hand-crafted soy candles sold in independent retailers nationwide; and hospitality properties including Lumber Jack Lodge in West Branch, a Super 8 Motel, and Lumber Jack Food & Spirits restaurant. The company acquired Ideal Party Store of Bay City and the adjacent Shamrock Dairy Bar in 2021.
