Forward is a fifth-generation family business founded in 1925 that has grown into a substantial operation across Michigan. The company operates convenience stores under the Shell and Marathon brands, runs nearly 60 Subway locations, and supplies propane, diesel, and fuel oil to customers across 24 counties. Forward also owns and operates Ideal Party Store in Bay City, along with the adjacent Shamrock Dairy Bar, Lumber Jack Lodge in West Branch, a Super 8 Motel, and the Lumber Jack Food & Spirits restaurant. The company additionally produces hand-crafted soy candles through Kristin & Company Candles, sold in independent retailers throughout the region. With over 1,000 employees across four divisions, Forward serves communities in Central and Northern Michigan and the Thumb.
