Forward is a family-owned business rooted in Michigan since 1925, when Austin G. Forward purchased the Welcome Garage in Standish. Today it operates as a fifth-generation company with over 1,000 employees across four divisions serving 24 counties. The company runs 26 Shell and 3 Marathon convenience stores, operates nearly 60 Subway restaurants as Michigan's largest Subway franchisee, and supplies propane, diesel, and fuel oil to homes, farms, and businesses. Forward also owns T.R. McTaggart, a screen print and embroidery operation in Standish; Kristin & Company Candles, which produces hand-crafted soy candles sold in over 300 independent retailers nationwide; Lumber Jack Lodge in West Branch with event space for up to 250 guests and on-site catering; a Super 8 Motel in West Branch; Lumber Jack Food & Spirits restaurant; Ideal Party Store in Bay City; and Shamrock Dairy Bar.
