De Soto National Memorial

National memorial in Bradenton marking Hernando de Soto's 1539 landing, with kayaking, fishing clinics, and living history programs.

About

De Soto National Memorial sits on the Bradenton waterfront where Conquistador Hernando de Soto's expedition made landfall in May 1539. The four-year journey that followed covered four thousand miles across the Southeast. Today the memorial offers ways to explore that history and the natural landscape. Summer brings ranger-led kayak tours, free fishing clinics for ages 7 and up, and a Junior Ranger program. The park also hosts a living history program at Camp Uzita and an escape room experience called Escape De Soto for groups of 4 to 8 people. It's a spot for outdoor activity and local history in one.
