Betty learned the craft through apprenticeship in the early 1990s and has been caning chairs for close to 30 years. She works with multiple caning techniques including hand caning, blind caning, primitive caning, splint, rush, and press-in caning, along with minor chair and rocker repair. Betty teaches classes in chair caning and seat weaving for people who want to learn the craft themselves. You can see her work demonstrated at the Florida State Fair's Cracker Country living history museum in Tampa and at Plant City Pioneer Day. She's also demonstrated her skills at venues across Florida, North Carolina, and Vermont.
