Lutz Train Depot

Replica train depot in Lutz preserving the history of the Peavine Railroad and early lumber industry.

About

The Lutz Train Depot is a replica of the original station that once stood in this northwest Hillsborough County community. Built in 1909 by William Lutz, the station served as a junction point where his brother Charles's tram line connected lumber from a local sawmill to the Tampa Northern Railroad. The narrow-gauge line became part of the Tampa and Gulf Coast Railroad, which ran east to west and extended all the way to Tarpon Springs. Locals called it the Peavine Railroad for its winding route. The replica depot now stands at US 41 on the north side of Lutz Lake Fern Road, marking the spot where this important transportation hub once linked the region's timber operations to the broader rail network.
